Let's Hit the Slopes

We decided to take advantage of the nice weather and the fact that we were in Brian Head to get a little skiing in. We opted to go night skiing. The only downside to this was that Bryce had never gone before and the only hill open for night skiing was one of the more advanced runs. Also Chloe had decided that she was going to teach herself to snowboard, she has only skied previously. We decided to go with it though and see how it went. For only $20 you can't go wrong I guess. Jeff and one of his sons, wife, and grandson went as well.

Bryce was a trooper and really tried, but honestly he was exhausted and that made it hard for him to learn. He had a late night the night before with his birthday party and a early morning starting with Chloe's basketball games. Then we went tubing and to top it all off we were asking him to learn to ski on hill that was more advanced, not the bunny hill for sure. Also we are pretty sure they gave him skis that were a little bit too big for him, because they didn't have any smaller ones at the lodge we rented at and we didn't want to run clear back over to the other one, so that made it even harder. All in all he was a trooper though. He tried he really did. He took one bad crash and didn't want to go on, but he did and towards the end with a lot of encouragement and help from a very patient father he started to get the hang of it. The people on the lift would shout encouragement as they rode by. The last little bit of the run he was actually falling asleep trying to stand up in his skis, so Landon unstrapped him and carried him the rest of the way down. He only made one run, but he was a trooper and we will take him back when the bunny hill is open and I'm sure he will do much better.

After he finally got down the hill my Mom took Bryce inside the lodge and he crashed with his iPad while he waited for the rest of us.
Chloe decided that she wanted to snowboard. She has never snow boarded before, only skied. Neither Landon or I board. So she was kind of on her own. She watched some videos beforehand and was determined to do it. The first run down for her was rough. She fell a lot, one time really hard. She even ended off going off trail and in some trees and had to hike out, but she didn't give up.
She kept at it. Tanner went down several runs with her and helped her out and by her last to runs she had gotten it down. In fact the last two runs she only fell one time each time on her way down. I am super impressed. I really don't know how she did it, except for that she is very determined when she puts her mind to something. Of course she had to take one last run when the rest of us were done for. Tanner was nice enough to go with her, because I didn't want her up on the mountain alone just in case something did happen to her.

All in all we had a fun little ski trip. We were all tired and ready to head down the mountain when it was time. We headed to Cedar City where we planned to stay the night at my Grandma's house. We stopped for dinner at Ihop and Bryce slept until right before we were ready to leave the restaurant then he woke up and ate all four of his pancakes. He was tired and exhausted from the days events.
