Presidents Day Weekend- Eye Trouble and Snow

After Chloe's games on Saturday we headed up to Landon's parent house for the long weekend.
We had originally planned to go up and help do some things around the house, but the weather-it was freezing and to cold to work outside in fact it ended up snowing, a lot, before we left, so we didn't get a whole lot done that way. Plus I think we were all just kind of burned out and needed some time to just chill.

Once we got there on Saturday the kids were ready to run around and just have fun. They spent lots of time outside, despite the cold temperatures. That's the best part for them when we go for a visit-the freedom to just run and go outside and play for hours on end. Of course there is the trampoline, and zip line , and cousins which make it even better.

Sunday morning we went to church. Afterwards the kids were outside playing, and then we hear crying and realize it's Chloe. She came in holding her eye. Apparently she had been coming down the zip line and when she hit the bottom the bungee that holds the brake somehow ripped out of the ground the metal stake which hold it and the stake hit Chloe in the eye. The rope also wrapped around her hair and ripped a bunch of hair out. Her eye though was the real issue and it was bad. I looked in it and could actually see blood on the bottom of the blue part of her eyeball. Around her eye was also all swollen and black and blue. Her vision was blurry and she was in a lot of pain. I made some phone calls to my Aunt and Mom. My Aunt works at an eye surgery place and my Mom used to work for an eye doctor. My aunt was able to get her an appointment that day with an eye doctor. So we loaded up and drove to Cedar City. The doctor said that she had actually injured the eyeball, so he was glad we came in. He dilated her eye a lot to help the blood dissipate faster and gave her some eye drops to use and things for us to watch for. He made a follow up appointment and told her no sports for 3-5 days until the eye had for sure quit bleeding and he had cleared her.
Chloe is actually so lucky that it wasn't any worse-she really could have lost an eye on this one. It really was some sort of freak accident. Landon and Saydee and Chloe had all been down the zip line earlier that day and the stake held fine. Landon put it back in the ground, digging it just a little deeper, and Tanner and his friend went down it with no problems. We really don't know what happened except, maybe moisture in the dirt made the ground soft and allowed it to pull loose. I think we will for sure be cementing it in the next time we go up though, just to be on the safe side.

After the dialation
After visiting the eye doctor we headed back to Fillmore. Sunday night it snowed. A lot! The downside I hadn't brought the kids snow stuff, I thought about it, but forgot. Maybe that was a good thing because Chloe wasn't supposed to be doing a lot of running around anyways-though it's hard to keep her still. Tanner had ended up coming up Sunday afternoon with his friend Ember, and when they went to leave he ended up getting stuck. It took awhile to get him dug out. Thankfully Dawson brought the tractor over and helped so we eventually go him out and we were all able to head down the road. It was slow going, but we eventually all made it home safely.

We for sure had some crazy adventures this weekend.

Update on Chloe's eye. Monday night the doctor was actually in St. George so he stopped by to check the pressure in her eye and it was better than the day before. Tuesday we traveled up to Cedar for her follow up appointment and he said the bleeding had stopped. He wanted her to still take it easy for a few more days though just to make sure it didn't get re-injured.
Her eye is better but still healing. Right now if she walks outside at all it hurts. She is super sensitive to light. The Doctor said that is normal. That is the last part of the eye to heal, however we need to watch it and if after a few weeks it doesn't improve he will need to see her again. We are all hoping and praying for a full recovery.
