Dissabled List Out for the Season

Last night in Tanner's baseball game his left foot got fractured-and I thought baseball was not a contact sport. He was catching and the play was at home. He had the ball when the kid was running in, and in the process mowing over the top of Tanner trying to get him to drop the ball, which he didn't. We all thought he had the tag-apparently the ump was blind because he called the kids safe. After the tag Tanner dropped to the ground in pain. He was able to get up and catch one more inning, but by the end of the game he was limping off the field. When we took of his shoe his foot was swollen and discolored. We iced it and gave him some medicine and put him to bed. This morning it wasn't any better so I took him in for an x-ray. He has a fracture in one of the bones coming up from his toe. He will be down for at least two weeks and possibly up to six depending on how well it heals. He has a pretty cool walking shoe, but this is a horrible way to start the summer. He has two things he  loves to do during the summer- baseball and swim, and right now he can't do either. I hope we both survive. Because just one day was hard enough.

Swim Team

Chloe decided she wanted to be on the swim team this year. I thought it was a great idea, because it is four mornings a week, and I thought that this would be a great way to burn off some of her energy each day, thus keeping us both sane over the summer.
Tuesday morning they had "tryouts" to see where every swimmer was at and to place them in the right groups. Chloe was quite disappointed that she was assigned to the beginning rather than the advanced group. Not that she isn't a great and strong swimmer it's just that she needs work on some of the racing fundamentals like breathing, etc. Plus she has never done anything like this before and it takes time to learn a new skill. Landon and I both had to reassure her, and now she seems okay. She did awesome today at her first day of practice. This afternoon she kept asking me if she had swim team tomorrow so I think that she is going to like it. She is also way excited for her first swim meet which happens to be on her birthday.
Here is a picture of her in her swim uniform-complete with goggles and swim cap.
I think she looks so cute. When we first put the swim cap on her she told me that she looked ugly-haha, awhile later she said I guess it's kind of cute.

Otter Creek Camping Trip

We went on our annual Memorial Day campout to Otter Creek. It was super windy, and I can't say that I had the most enjoyable time ever, but I guess it was still time with the family. Also the fishing was great-even though I didn't really do much of it because I didn't feel like battling the wind. Those who did were not disappointed as most of what we were reeling in were 3 pounders. Even Tanner fished for about 10 minutes-luckily he caught on quickly and then he was done for the rest of the time. The wind didn't slow Chloe down one bit, she had the time of her life. She even stayed a couple extra days with Grandpa and Grandma. Chloe is a reminder to us all to try to be happier and grateful for the things we do get to do-even if it is WINDY.
Chloe and Grandpa with Chloe's big fish...

You can't go camping without having smores-YUMMY!

On the otter walk-the kids in an old adobe house...

Lots of time was spent hanging out in the motor homes, trailers, and tent...
Tanner was always ready to play a card game with whoever was willing.
Cousins are the best kind of friends to have. Grandma had lots of fun activities for the kids to do-they all made friendship bracelets.

Baseball Haircut

Check out Tanner's new summer do...
We let him do something a little bit fun for the summer. He actually has a baseball shaved into the side of his head, it looks pretty awesome! It was the first time in years we haven't had to fight him to get a haircut. It is way short for him, but he seems to like it and it should help keep him cool during the hot summer months.

Closet Renovation

Landon's latest project has been a renovation of Chloe's closet. He has added more storage including a built in shoe organizer and an extra shelf in the top of the closet. He also moved the clothes hanging bar, which used to be hanging in about the middle of the closet. I think it turned out great and should be nice to help keep things organized. I'm really glad I have a handy man to take on projects like this, even though he was threatening that we would be hiring out projects like this from now on-LOL.

Another Baseball Post for Aiden

As those of you who know us well, know that the last few years Tanner's main thing in baseball has been pitching. That has kind of been changed the past few months. His little league coach saw something in Tanner that made him think he would make a good catcher. The thing is he was right, Tanner is pretty solid behind the plate and is getting more so as the season goes on, plus his arm is good enough to make the throw-out to second. In fact on his game on Tuesday he had two and almost a third. It was pretty sweet! His traveling ball coach has picked up on the fact that Tanner can catch and he has started doing quite a bit of catching for them as well. The only problem with him playing catcher is I don't have any shots of him from the front. It's not like I can go out on the pitching mound and snap a few, and Tanner refuses to come out or turn around to let me take his picture.

Now Aiden this video is for you-watch how Tanner chases that guy back to first base. (Brenda you'd better invest in some catching gear for Jack and Aiden now-lol)

Solar Eclipse

Sunday evening we went up to the church on Foremaster Hill to watch the solar eclipse with some of our friends and family. It was pretty cool, we all had the spiffy eclipse glasses and we stayed for about an hour watching it. We were able to see the eclispe from when it just started to when the moon was completely covering the sun making the ring of fire. The kids really thought it was neat. There is supposed to be another eclipse with Jupiter on June 5, so I guess we'll save our glasses for that, because I'm sure the kids will want to watch it.

Father and Sons Mishap

On Friday night our ward was having their Father and Sons Campout. Landon was thinking that him and Tanner weren't going to go. We have been super busy with everything and I think he was feeling just a little bit burned out and we are going camping as a family in a few days anyways. Also there was the fact that Tanner had a baseball game early the next morning. But when he told Tanner this, Tanner got a little bit upset. Apparently he had been looking forward to going, so they decided to go out for a few hours to hang out and eat and then come home. On the way one of the tires on Landon's truck blew out, so they had to walk the rest of the way to the camp (luckily the were only a few minutes away). I guess the good thing is that they still were able to have some bonding time. Someone gave them a ride home later that night, and we took a new tire out on Saturday.

Greek Olympics

Today was the 2nd grade Greek Olympics. Once again I was lucky enough to accompany the 2nd graders on their outing. It was held at the big city park in the middle of St. George. The kids had a blast, they got to compete in all sorts of events: the javelin throw (pool noodle), the discus (Frisbee), a foot race, the long jump, a wheelbarrow race, and a three legged race. They also got to eat some Greek food and otter pops. I only got a few picts of Chloe because I was manning the otter pop station. Fun Times!

New Calling

On Sunday I received a new calling in church. I am now one of the activity days advisers. I taught my last lesson in Relief Society that day as well and I will be released from that calling next week. I can't believe that I have been teaching in there for almost a year and a half. It was a bitter-sweet day. I am excited about my new calling and I can't say that I'm not just a little bit relieved not to have to be teaching in Relief Society anymore. It was a challenge for me to teach, but I know that I grew a lot in that calling and it helped me to increase my own personal study and testimony. Chloe couldn't be happier that her mom will be in activity days with her, she is so excited to be able to start going. I was in cub scouts for almost the whole time Tanner was so I wonder if this means I will have three years in activity days now :)

Busy Busy Saturday

Here is what our weekend consisted of: The Hershey Track Meet, 2 Baseball Games, a soccer game, a birthday party for my niece and nephew, and The Youth Spectacular. The first event started at 8:45 in the morning and the last one ended at 10:00 at night, so we were gone ALL DAY LONG!
Sometimes  I feel like we work harder on Saturdays than on any other day of the week I can't wait to be able to have a Saturday just to relax-I'm so looking forward to Memorial Day and I think more to the fact that we decided to just go camping instead of to a ball tournament.
Tanner did a good job in the track meet. He jumped 6 feet 3 inches. That put him in about 31st place out of about 80-90 kids. I think the winner jumped 7 feet 6 inches or something like that.
Chloe's team had an awesome game. They won 10-0, and the best part was is that every girl on the team made a goal, something that rarely happens. It was fun for them. Then only downside me and the other teams coach had a little tiff. To bad Landon wasn't there to referee, I guess that's what happens when you have two type A personalities out there running the game and no ref's. I do feel a little bad about how things ended, hopefully we can work things out, as we play each other again this Saturday. Unless  of course they decide just to forfeit ;)
Tanner's team ended up losing their first game in overtime and then losing the second by a few points. They are doing great though and have improved so much from a year ago. The plus side is that they got some really nice looking new uniforms. Look how dirty Tanner is in the video-Landon was taking some footage of him pitching so they could watch it later and work on some things. I found out one of the reasons Landon pushes Tanner so hard in baseball is that he wants him to be good enough at something that he will play on the high school teams and it will keep him busy so that he doesn't have time to or doesn't want to ruin things by doing drugs or drinking. I think that is great, and now I can see why he spends the amount of time he does with him every single day-practicing.
The Youth Spectacular was awesome! We were glad we got to go.
It was a long day, but it was good!

Cotton Days Field Trip

The 2nd Grade went on a field trip last Friday for Cotton Days. It is a fun thing that Washington City puts on for all second graders where they learn about the history of the pioneers and growing cotton. They learn about weaving, farming, making soap, etc. I have a little boy in Chloe's class who I work with, so sometimes I am able to get clearance to attend the fun things with her class. That makes it nice because I get to work and have fun at the same time, plus I don't miss out on all of Chloe's class activities. The kids had a blast as you can tell from this pict-lol.
During the presentation on making fire one of the mom's told me to keep a close eye on Chloe at home because she was watching the presentation very intently and I just might find the house on fire.

One of the kids in the class had a birthday that day so a very smart mother brought popsicles for their birthday treat. They were just what the kids needed after a long hot day.

School Play

Every year the kids school puts on a play. They are actually really well done and super cute for an elementary/middle school play. Last year Chloe and I went with some of our friends to see Aladdin. She loved it! So when they announced it was time to buy tickets for the play this year she kept asking if we could go. I  finally got the tickets and we continued the tradition and went with the same friends. The play was Cinderella and it held the kids captivated the entire time. It was so cute, there was even a life size stage coach. After the play they were able to go get a picture in the stage coach with Cinderella. I think this is one tradition we will keep going, who knows maybe next year Chloe will actually be in the play, since she will be old enough by then.

Dave's New Toy

Our neighbor Dave inherited this little mini chopper from someone who was throwing it out, he fixed it up for the kids to ride. Chloe loves it, Tanner hasn't tried it yet. The only problem is she is getting a little to brave on it. I watch her every second she is riding it, but even then I get a little worried when I hear her ride by me and say something like "let's see what the speed limit is on this thing". LOL Love that girl :)
