2 weeks ago Dixie High School held baseball practice. We were a little nervous. We felt pretty sure that Tanner would make the team, I mean he has been playing competitively since he was about 9 or 10, but still you never know. Plus there is just tons of talent Tanner's age so we were just a little bit nervous about the whole tryout thing.
They break down the teams in three groups Sophomores (which is made up of Freshmen and Sophomores), JV, Varsity. Just a note to show you how good Tanners age group is, he is a Freshmen by the way, about 5 Freshmen made the JV/Varsity team and they play all the time. They made it over many Sophomores who play on the Sophomore team and get playing time above many Juniors and Seniors.
Tanner did make the team-he made the Sophomore team-we are happy with that and so is he. He definitely will get more playing time on the Sophomore team than if he would have made JV. They have played a few games so far as a team-though the official season doesn't start until next week. He has started as both short stop and catcher-his coach has told him for the most part he will be the starting catcher. We are happy he is on the team and excited for the season. We can already tell he has stepped up his game in a lot of areas and I'm sure more improvement will come as the season goes.
